Thought I’d ask all the Martial artists out there Do you or have you ever used or carryed a improvised weapon for use a in real self defence situation should it arise,and if stopped,could say “Honest Officer its not a weapon its a..?????
ie: coins wraped in a hankey ( penny fist ),some form of spray, A kubotan keychain,or the modern eqivilant (The Stinger )

Please dont reply that you dont need a weapon because your style is so lethal etc, as you never know when you might need an equaliser.

Forget the title it was only to get your attention,I’m simply curious as to what weapons if any fellow martial artists carry

personally i carry a kubaton, and when i go for my walks i carry a retractable baton..

i’ve only had to use my retractable baton once, and that was against a couple of dogs that thought it’d be a good idea to stand around and attack people walking on the trail.. seriously they were chasing people, when they were caught, we found out that they were trained to fight.. tore a chunk out of the officers arm when he tried to get one of them in the cage..

but yes, my husband has had an incident of a local, newcomer to the police station(small town, most cops know my hubby) stop him while he’s walking down the street with his escrima stick asking what’s that for? what are you planning to use that for? very smug and arrogant.. my husband snapped back, for protection, it’s not conceild, i have a legal right to carry a stick for my personal protection against stray dogs and anyone who’d consider attacking me..

well, that shut the young rookie up and he drove off… he later appologizes to my husband after asking some of the other officers who he was.. heck, he’s trained half of them, lol.. lets say the rookie felt more than sheepish for his antics..

i’ve gotten some questions about my kubaton as well, but it’s mostly from people who are curious about what it is.. some guess right, but others tend to have their mind stuck in the gutter..

we also have oc spray and an extensive collection of short blades in various places around our house..

hey i look at it this way, i’m 5 ft 126lbs of shortness, when in my lifetime would i be attacked by a 5ft guy, no if anything he’s going to be at least a foot taller than me and probably 80lbs heavier.. in that case i’m completely out gunned.. yeah i could use my krav maga, but do i really want him getting that close to me, uh, not really..

i want to stun and run, whether it’s throwing my seering cup of starbucks in his face, blinding him with pepper spray, a whack to the knee with a retractable baton, a painful sweep of my keys to his eyes or a full force thrust into his collarbone or groin with my kubaton.. you come at me, don’t expect me to play fair.. that’s for sure..

man or woman, i think it’s sensible to carry some form of weapon, lethal or non.. and don’t just carry it, learn how to use it.. remember in a reality situation the tables can always turn and turn quickly, your weapon can quickly become their weapon.. so if you carry a gun, learn gun defense, a knife, learn knife defense.. never take any weapon lightly, you’ll regret it…

okay i guess what all my ranting is trying to convey is self defense weapons are a great idea, any form of self protection is not just a good idea but your right, not paranoia, but awareness, and remember none of us are above being attacked..
