Is mace/pepper spray legal in Peru?
I don’t speak Spanish, but am helping my girlfriend do research for her trip to Peru. Can anyone tell me if pepper spray/mace is legal in Peru? Are the laws different for different “states” and cities in Peru? She will be just outside of Arequipa for most of her trip.
I live in Peru and they are not illegal. They are quite difficult to find here but my only concern is that she will travel by plane and it is illegal to fly with these items! So how is she/you planning on bringing them to Peru? Peru is not a federal country so there is only one law for the entire country, different states do not have different laws.
If she is worried about her security (thus the use of pepper spray) I recommend she sticks to good neighbourhoods like Miraflores or San Isidro and that she doesn’t walk alone at night and things you wouldn’t do in any country anyway.
